"Snake!" I managed to utter and stuck my arm out in front of Heather like my mom always did when she had to slam on the brakes in the car. A few more steps and Heather might have planted her foot right in the middle of our amazing eyewitness account of nature's food chain in action.

At first it was hard to tell exactly what was happening in this reptilious tangle, as scales seemed to be twisting in every direction. Upon closer inspection, we could see that an iguana had had an unfortunate encounter with a boa constrictor. The boa was beginning to move its gaped jaw over the neck of the iguana. It was a gruesome but incredible display, so we watched in awe for the next 10 minutes as the boa managed to work his body around the iguana's (which was nearly the same girth as his own). The boa finally wriggled the last of the tail into his jaws and slithered on slowly across the road with a gluttonous bulge at his middle. Now thoroughly satisfied now with our island exploration, we waved at the grumpy caretaker and paddled off across the bay in our insect-like fashion.
